Sheep are one of the most important Sudanese exports and have clear contributions to national income. The state of North Kordofan is a source of 70% of the Sudanese sheep. The sheep are suffering from basic problems related to environmental factors,
Degradation of pasture - Water scarcity - Deterioration of the condition of animals in the summer season and seasonality of production, which leads to fluctuation of the annual output numbers. These problems are represented by the summer fodder gap, which is equivalent to four months. The rates of production and genetic improvement in the natural environment have not received enough attention, and the extent to which the research institutions such as the University of Khartoum in the Institute of Studies and Promotion of Animal Exports and the Faculty of Animal Production In addressing these problems and finding scientific solutions to them, which helps in reducing animal losses and improve the quality of red sheep and then increase exports of livestock. This is done by examining the possibility of introducing some modern techniques in education, care, nutrition and production, studying the requirements of foreign markets and how to meet them.
This project is designed to:
1. Serve development objectives of the project area as well as research objectives designed to enhance the competitiveness of Hamari sheep in the export market. This will be achieved through:
A- Capacity building the implementation of specific training programs of local herders to improve production techniques and flock health.
B- Research will be associated to identify the main marketing problems and the best methods to overcome these problems.
C- A long term selection program will be applied to improve reproductive and production characteristics of the Hamari sheep.
2. Serve as a conduit for research programs in the field of animal production and hygiene. The flock established at the station will be available for research in the fields of nutrition, reproduction and health.
There is joint work and interest with the Development Board of nomads to develop Al Dahan exports in Darfur in particular

Candidate gene approaches, which defined as a gene with biological effects on the physiology of a trait of interest (functional) or as a gene closely linked to a functional gene (positional), provides tools for identifying and mapping genes affecting quantitative exercises. Genetic polymorphisms at these candidate genes affecting economic impacts have stimulated substantial research interest, because of their imposition utilization as an aid to genetic selection and to demarcate evolutionary relationships in different livestock breeds. In beef cattle, various polymorphisms at some candidate genes have been identified.
Reasons for the exclusion and execution of sheep carcasses for export in the slaughterhouses within the jurisdiction of Khartoum 4 and its impact 2010

The aim of the project is to find out the most frequent causes of the total or partial execution of the sheep carcasses for export and to try to link the animal with the information and the environment of the animal, in addition to estimating the economic effects of the export sector and the national economy.
- Targeted slaughterhouse research was targeted, and general information was obtained from the Ministry of Animal Resources for several years to export slaughterhouses, in order to arrange the diseases of importance and thus determine the priority of control and treatment in the places of export
- The carcasses of the exterminator and the reasons for the total and partial exclusion of the carcasses have been determined by a slaughterhouse to carry out the monthly reports of the slaughterhouse and the laboratory in addition to the reports of past years
- The reasons for execution and exclusion were limited to the Kadro slaughterhouse (from January to May 2011 and information was also taken from previous years)
- Monitoring the data in the monthly reports is not enough to arrange and inventory diseases, as they lack the real numbers, especially in the partial executions, where he mentions a general summary of the reasons for the executions
- old annual reports with no information on executions and exclusion, only numbers of animals exported without reference to exclusion
Therefore, we directed a project questionnaire to detail the causes of the executions, especially the partial executions and work during the project. The data will be analyzed and the results monitored through the questionnaire, as well as random sampling and examination to confirm the results:
- To arrange diseases of economic importance
- To limit economic losses
- The epidemiological knowledge of some diseases

Animal health is considered one of the most important issues in export of livestock. It represented and is still representing the major constraint of Sudan animal exports. This importance arises from the fact that many animal diseases are either infectious and of epidemic nature that the importing country safeguards against or these diseases are transmissible to humans (zoonosis).
The functions of the Unit of Animal Health and Safety of Animal Products can be summarized in that it acts to realize the objectives of the in Institute according to its name.
To understand the framework of the unit in the field of livestock export, we summarize the route of export animal in the following stations, taking the Hamari sheep as an example:
- The first station is the station of breeding and reproduction: this includes the areas in which sheep owners breed their animals under natural range in north and west Kordofan.
- The second station is the primary markets: this includes the areas in which sheep are gathered and marketed. Here, the exporter or his agent selects the herd he wants to buy and finishes the purchase after rejecting some sick animals. Then the exporter or his agent treats some animals and gives the animals doses of some drugs like dewormers and antibiotics.
- The third station is the inspection and vaccination centre: here animals are subjected to visual examination during which apparently sick animals are rejected. Then the animals are given doses of some vaccines. The animals remain in the centre for some days before being transported to the first veterinary quarantine after being reexamined and sick are being rejected.
- The fourth station is the first veterinary quarantine: before being admitted to this station, the animals are inspected visually as has been done in the inspection and vaccination centre. Blood samples are collected and sent to the laboratory for brucellosis test. The animals remain some other days before being transported to the next station after reexamination and rejection of sick animals.
The fifth station is the final veterinary quarantine: in this station, the animals are subjected to the same procedures of the first veterinary quarantine, but brucellosis test is not repeated. The animals remain in this station to complete to the whole period of quarantine of 21 days, which is calculated from the day of being admitted to inspection and
